Technologies prevalent in the consumer space are being adopted for the automotive environment and are enabling engineers and designers greater freedom in design of the console.

Capacitive Touch Sensing:
Put simply, a capacitive sensor is composed of a pair of adjacent electrodes. When a human being (or any other conductive object) comes in proximity to these electrodes, there is additional capacitance between the electrodes and the object which can be measured to detect the object’s presence.

Using this technology, it is possible to build touch sensors acting as buttons, sliders, trackpads, etc. Alternately, capacitive sensing can also be used for proximity sensing where no contact is required between the sensor and the user’s body. Evolving ecosystem:
Such changes in design methodologies require a changing role amongst each member of the value chain. Car manufacturers traditionally have focused departments for each component of the center console that are responsible for the complete design of the component, including what will show on the front panel. However, the integrated design methodology requires that the user interface be directly handled by a collaborative team focused on HMI. Such changes enable greater focus on the actual HMI design.

Such technologies also require greater cooperation between semiconductor and other technology companies with car manufacturers to enable creation of suitable devices and technologies. Such collaboration is resulting in greater dynamism in the ecosystem and providing a platform for accelerated technology development.

Availability of advanced HMI technologies like capacitive sensing and capacitive touchscreens with support for standard automotive communication protocols are ushering in a change in the design of the center console of the car which is now moving towards an integrated front panel. Such panels provide a number of advantages including better styling, uniform look and feel of front panels, lower number of grooves and mechanical components, lower tooling costs, and increased reliability.

With semiconductor suppliers and technology companies working even more closely with car manufacturers such improvements in panel designs will continue to evolve and enable a superior driving experience.

The PS3 Console is in my opinion the best multimedia center created to date. Most people recognize it for being able to play games, but it is also capable of playing CD, DVD, and the highly-acclaimed HD Blu-Ray format.

When it comes to gaming, there is no comparison. The PS3 Console receives all of the large multi-platform titles such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2 and Street Fighter IV, and also gets arguably the best collection of exclusive games on the market including Killzone, Little Big Planet and Uncharted.

The PS3 Console is a very convenient piece of hardware and requires no extra fees after purchase, and is also very reliable. To summarize, the PS3 Console is a great piece of hardware that is multi-dimensional, future-proof, powerful, and is now at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this product.

PS3 Console – A Great Long-Term Solution

What I really like about the slim is that it still has the same functionality as the old PS3 Console  (except the install os) for a lower price. I respect the 360 for Live, cross chat, and a good XMB, but think of the long term benefits with the PS3 Console slim. The slim consumes less power than the 360 thus cutting costs from your electric bill. Also, the slim has a big fan inside which helps prevent the system from burning. This is a problem for the 360: the lack of a good cooling system. Had Microsoft cut the price AND redesign the cooling system of its system, I would be giving a lot of thought on which console to purchase. However, Microsoft just cut the price and that’s it.

Also, the PS3 Console will be getting a lot of high quality exclusives. Its lineup is much more diverse than the 360. Yes, 360 will have Fable III, Alan Wake, Halo ODST, and Forza 3, but the PS3 Console will have Demon’s Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, EyePet, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG, ModNation Racers, Quantum Theory, and Afrika. Later on in 2010, it will get The Last Guardian, Agent, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Last Rebellion.

Basically the PlayStation 3 has a main problem and is know as either “YLOD” or “Red Flashing Light Of Death” this is caused by the strain/demand placed upon the console and over time heat eventually weakens the solder around the motherboard resulting in cracks and disconnects, this is always around the Main chips on the motherboard.

Sony have used a poor grade solder and a poor grade thermal compound in my opinion and neither of these will help with the lifespan of the console.

I personally have started to offer a repair service as i noticed there was a market for PS3 Repair Brighton.I beleive that the consumer should have more choices than going back to the original manufacturer of the product and paying over the odds for a fix which can also be achieved to the same standard by a skilled individual. Sony do have a reputation of not putting there customers first when it comes to the PS3, however over the years they have managed to get such a devoted set of fans they can nearly do what they want with very little impact upon themselves.

This is shown by over time how Sony have removed the functionality of each console as time has gone by. For example here a few features of the first edition console -

However this has been removed from all the newer consoles, but as i said they have such a devoted fan base and the consumer has already invested their money into the product its to late to turn back…..
