A common belief is that when you multitask, you get more things done. And your productivity increases. But nothing could be further from the truth. When you multitask, you’re actually hurting your productivity.

The only exception is if you’re doing tasks that don’t need a lot of attention. For instance, if you’re waiting in line, you can read a book. Or if you are driving, you can listen to music at the same time.

But generally, if the tasks you’re working on need your full attention to do them well, multitasking will slow you down. Whenever you switch tasks, you’ll have to spend time figuring out where you left off. It’s like being interrupted while you’re working. A Microsoft study showed that it took their workers 15 minutes to get back into the task after being interrupted. If you switch tasks a lot due to multitasking, you’ll be spending a lot of time trying to get back into each task.

To avoid multitasking, the first step is to minimize interruptions as much as possible. Turn off your cell phone, instant messenger, and email desktop alerts. Let your voice mail answer your personal calls. You can return your calls when you finish working.

Next, resist the urge to switch tasks, such as checking your email. Focus on the task you’re working on and nothing else. If you have a to-do list, work on each task one at a time. Don’t work on multiple tasks on your to-do list at the same time.

I recently moved states and in the whole process of trying to save a few bucks I have opted out of Cable TV service. I should let everyone know that yes I am a TV junky. I watch probably a good 3+ hours of TV every day. I enjoy watching my local news and a whole slew of TV shows. Many of the shows I watch are on cable to channels only like the series Monk and Burn Notice.

It has been over a month since I moved and to be 100% honest, I don’t miss having cable. I thought I really would but I don’t even want cable TV any more. Yes I still watch all my TV shows but only I now do it online. Hey I said nothing about ditching High speed internet service.

Now many of you who are things of ditching cable to save a few bucks a month really should check online. Almost every TV show on the planet is free to watch online direct from the maker on their website. Other places like Hulu and Fancast also allow a legal TV watching experience. The nice thing is you don’t download any of these shows. You just stream them. This way you are not taking up any computer space. Some TV shows are not shown the same day they are on the TV. In fact most don’t place them on the website till about 24 hours after the TV show first aired and they tend to keep them there only for a few months before pulling them down. TV shows like House for instance are not available till 8 days after the first showing on TV. However this is a free station anyways so if you have TV still and a converter box you can still watch it live when it first airs.

There are many advantages to watching online. My favorite is you can pause the show and come back. You also get to watch the show whenever you want to watch it.

It’s kind of like having Tivo only without the cost. Those who still want entertainment but not the TV cable bill now can.

There are some requirements when it comes to streaming movies and TV shows online. The first is you need to make sure you have a good High Speed Internet Service While DSL will work it should not be under 1.5 Mbps. Even at 1.5 Mbps you will most likely notice your system begin a little choppy. To play the TV shows in HD you should consider a speed no less than 6 Mbps. This is the speed I use and have zero issues. If you have an older computer you may want to try and increase your computers RAM. This is the cheapest and in my opinion the best way to speed up your computer. This will also help you enjoy a rich TV viewing experience.

For those who want to still watch TV on their TV and not your computer LCD you can. The process is a little more complicated but there are many sites out there to help you in that area.

Final word of caution to everyone out there. Nothing worth having is free. Stay away from torrent sites and do not download TV shows and Movie’s illegally. This will only cause you grave headaches down the road. There really is no point in doing this when you can already watch hundreds of TV shows and movies online direct from the makers of these movies and on ad sponsored sites like Hulu and Fancast.

A 10-year-old girl hacker CyFi, also known as pseudonym CyFi, wows the technology industry as well as attendants at the DefCon 19 convention (event for hackers from around the world) by the finding of zero-day exploit in games on iOS and Android devices. Reportedly, the Californian girl discovered the flaw around January 2011 because she felt boring with the pace of farm-style games. The ten-year-old hacker, artist and athlete is also co-founder of DEFCON Kids.

In the celebration of BlackBerry World 2011 in Orlando, USA, RIM (Research in Motion) has confirmed the BlackBerry Bold 9900 as the thinnest touchscreen BlackBerry in the world. The smartphone’s thickness is only 10.5mm and all other features remain the same as previous Blackberry Bold version. The phone has dimension length 115mm and wide 66mm.
