How Mobile VoIP Can Save Money For Your Small Business

Mobile VoIP Technology If Done Right Can Save a Business Money

Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP technology has been around for a long time and businesses have been using it to save money on telecom costs.  However, with the increase of smart phones in businesses can the telecom costs be reduced as well?  The answer is a resounding yes, and no.

Instructions

1

How Mobile VoIP Started

Mobile VoIP was not a big business until the summer of 2010 when AT&T and Apple made concession and finally allowed the popular VoIP service Skype on the wildly popular Apple iPhone.  The decision, though not one that AT&T wanted because of possible lost revenue on voice services, was something that Apple insisted.  Skype apps have been added to various cell phones such as iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia devices giving it a huge presence in the mobile VoIP market.

2

Other Mobile VoIP Players

Though Skype is the largest, other players in the mobile VoIP market are Fring, Truphone, Nimbuzz, and Vonage offer very similar services.  Many of them are as easy as downloading the app to your smart phone and start using it.  A major rival to Skype could be Google as they are looking into entering the mobile VoIP market and could change the market altogether.

3

The Cost of VoIP

Many people believe that VoIP is free, and in some cases it is.  However, most wireless carriers still require smart phone users to have a voice-calling plan.  If that is the case, then make sure you sign up for the minimum minutes plan offered.  This will allow you to use your mobile VoIP app for free utilizing the app-to-app calling.  The cost to your smart phone bill will be for the data usage and that could be nothing if you have an unlimited data plan with your wireless carrier.

Tips & Warnings

Your business can save money if your smart phone users want to call regular numbers as well.  By using a mobile VoIP app, you can save money by circumventing the voice calling charges of your wireless carrier.  Many mobile VoIP services charge much less per minute or a flat monthly rate for unlimited domestic calls.  Smart phone users will just have to learn to dial up a mobile VoIP app instead of dialing using the keys on their phones.
