Nintendo has always catered to a younger generation of video game players but they had seemed to have fallen behind the competition. Sony and Microsoft have been capturing the teenage male and young male adult demographic due to the touting of their high quality graphics and complicated gameplay. Nintendo needed a revolutionary console that would catapult them back to the top of the video game industry. The Wii was designed to target people who traditionally did not play video games. Older generations and females have always felt disconnected from the video game industry and no company has really made a solid effort to provide a gaming experience that would pique their interests.
