Sony has reaffirmed claims that the PlayStation 3 will last at least 10 years. Comparisons have been made to the PlayStation 2 which, after 11 years on the market, is still selling millions around the world.
Up to the minute technology backs up this claim. Full HD compatible connection to the TV, up to date blue ray technology, one of the largest online communities, 3.2 GHz processor, WiFi and wireless controllers just to name a few.
However this technology does not come without its glitches. There are many known problems with the console that require repair. Firstly the YLOD, yellow light of death. This seems to be a re-occurring problem which, when you turn on the console, it shuts down immediately. On occasions the console can freeze making gaming impossible. Not accepting discs or being unable to read them is another frustrating phenomenon.
Hard disk errors, no power and no vision from the console to the TV are among other known issues requiring PS3 repairs.
Packed with so much technology some may claim that PlayStation 3 repair is a small price to pay for such an advanced console, others, who have had firsthand experience of the aforementioned, would disagree.
With the warranty only valid for one year from the date of purchase, if accompanied by the original receipt, it seems that Sony do not, in reality, have as much faith in their claims as it seems.
Even with the 10 year lifespan claim, just like the Playstation 2, it will not be long before Sony launch a new console with even more applications than its predecessor.
