As advancement in technology makes a vast amount of improvement each year, it’s hard not to wonder whether society is starting to become controlled by technology. The vast majority of people believe that society is slowly being controlled by technology, although there are some who may beg to differ as they believe that humans have full control over technology, and that technology is a tool used for our convenience. But the fact remains that as long as we are reliant on technology, no matter how much control we seem to have over it, we are slowly being controlled by it as it ebbs its way into our daily lives.

From the home appliances we use, to the cars we drive, and computers we use for our work, all the way to the manufacturing of baby prams and the food we eat, there is hardly a device that we own and use that does not have technology in it or has been made without using technology. Though in this sense, technology has not literally taken control over society, but rather we have come to place technology as a central role in our lives and we have become reliant on it.

Consider this: when a pilot is navigating a plane, he has equipment that aids in his piloting of the plane to his destination, and the equipment no doubt relies on technology. When that equipment is faulty or malfunctions, although the pilot is in control of all the equipment, his control and having the equipment as tools does not determine what happens next. It is the technology which has malfunctioned that has an upper hand rather than the pilot.

Nowadays we are bombarded by the technology in the forms of the latest HD/plasma televisions, to the latest operating such or gadgets for computers. Even the rate at which new models of digital camcorders, cameras, mobile phones and mp3 players, are released into the market is at an incredibly fast rate. Jobs in areas such as engineering, accounting, teaching, and media, all rely on technology in the form of software programs and gadgets to make the job easier. As such, it can be said that technology is making its presence known in our daily lives and society is slowly but surely being controlled by technology.

People have become “lazy” when it comes to doing certain things and are starting to become so reliant on technology that it is frightening to think how life would be without it. Technology is like a double-edged sword, it can be useful and helps us in over daily lives, but there is also a cost to it. If we were to use it correctly, the consciences would not be so dire. It is after all an undeniable fact that technology has become an intricate part of our lives.

Slack Amphibious Lounger – killing two birds with one stone, Slack have produced an item that has seen an end to uncomfortable poolside furniture and useless swimming pool inflatables.

Ten months in production, Slack successfully created the Amphibious Lounger which is, in effect, a large beanbag that can float on water.

A standard bean bag on the poolside, the Lounger works in the pool by letting in water through the specially designed material, which then reacts with the contents, producing hundreds of inflatable ‘beans’.

Solar Shower – due to chlorine being a corrosive chemical, many people cannot use swimming pools that use chlorine for substantial lengths of time without showering in between uses.

To make things easier, rather than having to continually walk indoors to shower, there have been a range of solar panel outdoor showers produced that when attached to a clean water supply, will produce warm water for showering under without any need for connection to an electrical socket. Furthermore, the majority of solar showers created are designed to also be used when camping or traveling and are therefore extremely light weight, telescopic and very easy to carry around.

Oasis Insta-Pool – it is well known that for a permanent swimming pool, the cost can easily reach ,000. As a lot of people simply do not have the space, or only believe they will use the swimming pool for a few weeks each year, then the Insta-Pool could be a good solution.

The pool is more than 12 feet long, takes only moments to set up and take down. It comes with a filter, ladder, ground cover and pool cover, making for one of the most affordable swimming pools on the market today.

The range of connectors charge PDA’s notebooks, laptops, music players etc. but it is recommended that you check the Power2Go website to ensure right adaptor cable is available for the devices you want to charge.

Finally let’s take a look at the UniRoss USB charger. Although, not strictly a portable rechargeable power pack, it is a portable battery charger, and mightily useful addition to one of the above for any devices that require AA or AAA battery power, for example beard trimmers, lady shaves, and even ‘old school’ CD players and MP3 players. It works by plugging into a USB port on a computer to recharge the batteries 2 batteries at a time. This could be used while using a laptop that is being charged by one of the major portable power packs, or whilst using an internet cafe computer on your travels. However, the charging times are incredibly long, requiring being hooked up for at least 3 hours.

Our advice is that if you are going on a hike that will be taking you well off the beaten path, go for the solar powered Solio. You can give it a good charge when you stumble across a power supply, or else keep your juice topped up in the desert if not. The Power2Go is preferred choice if you need more hefty charging capabilities and will be near a mains power every few days. As for the battery charger; best invest in a gadget.
