The Xbox Elite is the second video game console from Microsoft which was developed in co-operation with IBM, ATI, and SiS. This model gaming console allows players to compete online and download content such as arcade games, game demos, trailers, TV shows and movies. Mainly considered as a successor to the Xbox, it competes with Sony’s Play Station 3 and Nintendo’s Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

Officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, this model divulged game information later that month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). It is the first console to provide a near-simultaneous launch across the three major regions. The console created a record by marking a sale of 17.7 million units worldwide by January 3, 2008. The Xbox 360 is currently available in four different versions, the “Arcade” console, the “Core” console, the “Premium” console, and the “Elite” console, each having its own set of included accessories and features.

The Xbox Elite was released in the U.S. and Canada on November, 22, 2005, in Europe on December 2, 2002 and in Japan in December 10, 2005. The Xbox gaming console later got launched in Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Russia. The Xbox Elite game console is available in three standard variants including the “Xbox 360 Arcade”, the “Xbox 360″, and the “Xbox 360 Elite”. A discontinued SKU, the “Xbox 360 Core”, was replaced by the “Xbox 360 Arcade” in October 2007.

The Xbox Elite is the fourth and most expensive variation of the console with a price of US$ 449.99 and includes a 120GB hard drive along with a matte black finish. The Elite retail package includes an HDMI 1.2 cable and a controller and headset that match the system’s black finish.

You just wouldn’t believe it would you. The word is out that some folk are actually using their older consoles like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) more than their Wii or other, more recent console.

I didn’t believe it either but when I read about a survey carried out both here in the UK and in the USA, it concluded that some folk are actually using their older consoles more than their Wii console. How true that is I don’t know but when I stopped and thought about it, even I play my older consoles quite a bit more than I originally thought.

But some folk have apparently admitted to using their older consoles more and I suppose there is nothing wrong with that at all, it just seems quite strange. I have to say that I do play more than three times per week on my SNES with my little girl, even though we have the Wii and Wii Fit which we use about twenty times per week.

Interestingly, when people in the survey were asked why they played older consoles more, more than 50% gave an answer which might surprise you. It wasn’t because the older consoles were a greater challenge or because they were easier or because of any other similar reason. No, it was because of sentimentalily! Yes, that’s right, playing on the older console today brought back memories of fifteen years ago when they first played it and thought it was the best thing on the planet.

I never know how much to believe about surveys, but if all that is true I can understand it to a degree. A twenty five year old today would have been just ten years old fifteen years ago – that’s a huge difference and lots of us are indeed sentimental about our childhood.

For me, I like most of the older consoles and games but give me the Nintendo Wii any day.
