2D Animation Software Programs

Flash

Adobe Flash has been around a while in various different forms. It has the advantage of being simple to use, but lacks some tools that really would benefit designers and animators. Toon Boom Digital Pro As software animation goes, Toon Boom Digital Pro is aimed strictly at professionals, as its price indicates. It has the proof to back it up. Toon Boom Studio Express This simplified version of Toon Boom Studio is an animation software program suitable for beginners. It has limits in that only a single scene can be created at a time. However you can simply choose to purchase Express and upgrade later to Studio should you need it.

Motion Studio This is a funky Windows-only program designed to only create.exe file types. It could be useful for slideshow presentations or display in a loop, but the animation aspect is quite limited.

Pro Motion Pro Motion is an animation program for Windows only designed for handling close-up pixel. This makes it the perfect software to build sprite-based characters similar to those in video games.

3D Animation Programs

For the most part 3D is considered to be software for professionals, although the following applications are seeing use at home and open-source movies.

3D Studio Max 3D Studio Max wins as being the most expensive software animation program from the list.
