A multi-user network requires a server console switch to monitor and control different computers on the network. This allows the administrator to manage the network from a single location. Most businesses with secure networks employ this type of hardware. There are many applications for a server console switch from major business network administration to home automation.

The server console switch is basically a box with ports for different hardware input. It is used with a secure console server to control other computers on a network from a remote location. The input ports on the switch are for the video, keyboard, and mouse as well as ports for each network terminal. The user attaches a monitor and input devices to the console switch then uses these to monitor and manipulate any other computer that is hooked into the network. This allows an IT manager to make changes for another user without having to go to that person’s office. In the cases of large companies with multiple offices, this is a necessity so that the IT section can work without needing to run all over a building or drive to different locations. Another common business application is in restaurants where the staff can type orders into various computer stations, which will relay them to a central terminal. This type of use can be applied to much retail business, as well. There is no limit to its uses.

AP settings for 802.Ix wireless network connections are configured on the~ Network Properties and IEEE 802.Ix tabs. The Network Properties tab (shown in Figure 12-10) should include the SSID. Follow these guidelines regarding the checkboxes:
Select the Data Encryption (WEP Enabled) check box to provide encryption of data.
Do not select the Network Authentication (Shared Mode) check box. Open mode is required to allow authentication via IAS.
Select the The Key Is Provided 70-680 Exam Automatically check box to allow dynamic key exchange.
