Gaming action looks set to heat up as both Microsoft and Sony bring motion control into play in a big way. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3 ( PS3 ) game consoles have been outsold by Nintendo’s Wii since 2005, the beginning of the current generation of game consoles. Although over 41 million units of the Xbox 360 and 38 million units of the PS3 have been sold as of June, the Wii is already ahead in March, with over 70 million units sold worldwide. However, unlike the Wii, these two high-definition game consoles offer cutting-edge high-definition visuals and robust online services, and are fighting back with their own motion control set-ups to attract all types of gamers. In short, the two consoles are fighting on Nintendo’s turf by competing to get console gamers off the couch to sweat it out while playing games. Of course, for existing owners of these consoles, this means having to purchase new peripherals top enjoy the new wave of motion control games.
The new Xbox 360 is arguably on par with the Playstation 3 in terms of features and design.
